Transferring Your Pet’s Specialist Dermatology Care to ADS
We understand that pets sometimes need to transfer their ongoing specialist dermatology care. Our team will guide you through the process, review previous dermatology records and treatment plans, and help ensure the transition to ADS is as smooth as possible.
If you have been impacted by the recently announced closure of Dermatology for Animals (DFA) in Queensland, our team is available to help ensure your pet’s dermatology care and treatments can continue with minimal interruption.

Clients Transferring from Dermatology for Animals (DFA)
We appreciate that the recently announced closure of Dermatology for Animals may be concerning for referring clinics and pet owners with ongoing complex dermatology cases. We'd like to recognise the contribution the business and their team made to specialist dermatology care over the last 25+ years in Queensland.
Since this announcement, we have been contacted by both clinics and pet owners seeking guidance on transferring ongoing dermatology care. Animal Dermatology Specialists continues to provide dermatology referral services across South East Queensland, and our team has a clear process to support pets transitioning their care to us.
For pets impacted by this change, we offer a dedicated transition consultation. This comprehensive appointment reviews your pet’s dermatology care and ensures continuity of treatment.
During this consultation, our clinicians will:
Review previous dermatology records and diagnostic testing
Confirm the underlying diagnosis where required
Assess current treatment protocols, including allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT), sometimes referred to as an allergy vaccine, and adjust if necessary
Develop a clear ongoing management plan to ensure continuity of care.
If you would like to arrange a transition consultation, please contact our team. We are here to support you during this period.
How to Transfer Your Pet’s Dermatology Care to ADS
Our goal is to help ensure transferring your pet’s dermatology care is as straightforward as possible, keeping your informed along the way. Our team will assist you through each step of the process to help ensure your pet’s treatment can continue safely.
- Book an appointment with our team: When booking, please let us know that your pet is transferring dermatology care from another specialist practice so we can allocate the appropriate appointment type.
- Provide details of your pet’s primary veterinarian and previous dermatologist: With your consent, our team can assist in requesting relevant dermatology records, diagnostic results, and treatment history.
- Clinical review of previous records: Prior to your pet’s first appointment, our clinicians allow time to carefully review previous records and treatment plans.
- Continuing your pet’s treatment plan: During the consultation, our clinician will assess your pet’s current condition and ensure ongoing treatments and management plans continue to be the most appropriate for your pet and family.
As an outcome of your transition appointment, you will have confidence in the continuation of your pet’s dermatology treatment plan.

Other Considerations When Transferring Care

Continuity of Care with a Familiar Clinician
If your pet has previously been treated by one of our ADS clinicians in the past at another practice, there may be benefits in that clinician already being familiar with certain details of your pet’s condition and treatment history.
When booking, you may wish to note the clinician involved. Where possible, our team will accommodate continuity of care to help streamline the transition process.
During your pet’s first visit with ADS, the clinician will still review previous records and treatment plans, discuss ongoing treatments, and confirm the best management approach.
Our goal is to provide familiar, consistent care and keep you informed throughout the transition period.

Ongoing Treatments & Immunotherapy Orders
If your pet is receiving ongoing dermatology treatments, including allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT), our clinicians will review diagnostic results, treatment protocols, and immunotherapy vaccine formulations during the transition consultation.
This ensures we fully understand your pet’s allergy diagnosis and established management plan before continuing treatment. For pets needing repeat immunotherapy orders, our clinicians will review previous testing and prescriptions before arranging further doses.
With your approval, we can request records from your previous clinic, or you may provide copies if already obtained. Our goal is to maintain your pet’s treatment safely with minimal disruption, while keeping communication clear.
